Further Progress On No.5 Mona : 13th June
The Association’s cosmetic restoration of No.5 Mona in the goods shed at Port St. Mary Station has been continuing over the busy T.T. period; the name and numberplates have now been fitted to the water tanks and many smaller components in the cab refitted. The brass dome cover is coming along nicely, over fifty years of grime being removed it is now beginning to shine again in readiness for the 150th anniversary celebrations next month.
The locomotive is now having body filler applied ahead of the final topcoat of Spring Green being applied, together with lining out in black and white and the iconic numeral on the rear bunker, this will be replicated from a tracing taken from the original applied in 1967, made prior to work commencing. The locomotive will be displayed during the eight-day Summer Transport Festival at the end of that month.
