Pre-Season Museum Cleaning : 4th March ’23
Volunteers were on hand to clean exhibits in the railway museum at Port Erin Station, taking a break from their cosmetic restoration of No.5 Mona at Port St. Mary this weekend, ahead of its opening on the first day of the season next week on Friday 10th March when timetable “R” will be in place for the first time this year. Work focused on cleaning No.6 Peveril and the recently-installed six-wheel carriage M.N.Ry. No.6 with a further group tackling No.1 Sutherland next week. Work is also in hand to refresh the interpretive panels in the museum including two new panels for both the six-wheeler and No.5 Mona which is due to take the place of No.6 later this year when cosmetic work has been completed.
The season opens this Friday, 10th March when the museum will open its doors for the first time this year. Also on display are Governors Saloon F.75, Association-built wagon M.78, van M.N.Ry No.15 and closed van G.19 as well as many smaller exhibits; the souvenir shop will also be open from 9.30am. This year commemorates the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Peel Line and a whole host of events will take place across the year, with the main event on Saturday 1st July followed by an extended transport festival at the end of that month. The Association’s Annual General Meeting will also take place as part of the event.
