The End Of The Season : 29th October

The 150th anniversary season drew to a close this afternoon, Sunday 29th October with trains running to the “R” timetable; with the failure of No.13 Kissack on the evening of Saturday 28th upon arrival at Port Erin Station, No.11 Maitland travelled south light engine to take the 10.00am departure while work was undertaken to the stricken locomotive, which was brought back to Douglas Station on the rear of the 12.00pm departure.

In the afternoon there was a private charter for Manx Breast Cancer using the saloons for a trip to Castletown Station and return, No.11 Maitland being used on this while No.4 Loch and No.13 Kissack maintained services (having swapped at lunchtime); this brings to a close another successful season on the railway.  The Steam Into Christmas leaflet is out now and reveals the commencement date for the 2024 season on Friday 15th March.

Below are a series of views from the closing days of the season; work will commence next week on the relay of the yard at Douglas Station, work initially focussing on roads one and two prior to the festive season; the return of No.12 Hutchinson earlier in the week will see winter work continuing on this locomotive.  A further news update will be posted next week including photographs and details of winter works.
