Four-Wheel Carriage B.1

One of the first four-wheel carriages built for the opening of the Peel Line in 1873 by the Metropolitan Carriage &Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley in Birmingham, upon delivery of the first bogie carriages from Brown, Marshall & Co., Ltd., in 1874 this carriage was close-coupled with A.1 and later mounted onto a bogie underframe in 1926 to become F.62; in this form it survived in traffic as apair until withdrawal in 1987 after which it was stored in a variety of locations, but fully restored and returned to traffic in 2022, again as a “pair”, with original fleet numbering carried on lower panelling.
