Cattle Vans K.1 (i) - K.2 (i)
These were the first two vans of their series and were supplied by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley Works in Birmingham for the opening of the Peel Line in 1873 in common with the other original rolling stock for the railway. It is believed they were both supplied roofless and never had them fitted but a paucity of photograph reference material makes it difficult to back this up. Works drawings show that they featured diagonal planking.
Both examples were scrapped as early as 1921, the chassis of K.2 being used for the basis of wagon H.41 and K.1 was unusually scrapped completely with no parts retained. Replacements for both these vehicles were created in the works at Douglas Station in 1926 taking the same fleet numbers, these utilised the redundant frames from C.11 and B.6 respectively, for further more information on their two replacements which took the fleet numbers please click here.
