Drop-Side Wagons M.1 - M.4

The first initial batch of these drop-side wagons obtained from the Ashbury Carriage Wagon & Iron Co., Ltd., and following the first batch of three-plank wagons from 1873; there were four of these, all of which survived in periodica use until the latter days of the Railway Company operations.  The last of the batch to survive was M.2 which was scrapped in the goods yard at Douglas Station being in parlous condition and surplus to requirements.  Also of note, and as illustrated below, wagon M.4 was stored on the spur near to the carriage turntable at St. Johns Station after withdrawal until disposal.  All wore the standard goods livery which over time was a variety of shades of grey.
