Brake Van E.4 (ii)

E.4 (ii) was in fact the re-numbered E.1 (ii) and was again supplied by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., of Saltley Works in Birmingham; withdrawn in 1925, it went on to see use as part of the breakdown train with Crane No.2 together with two match trucks.  In this guise is was painted grey, later red oxide, and carried the lettering  “Loco Dept.” along its sides.  It survived in store in the goods yard until disposal as part of the Ballasalla Bonfire in 1974This vehicle is notable for having its lookout duckets removed and replaced with panelling whereas others simply received horizontal planking in their place.  Unusually this example retained its worksplates on the solebars until it was disposed of.
