Closed Van G.1

G.1 was the first van of the 1873 batch and a remarkable survivor, actually dating from 1872 making it the oldest item of stock on the railway today; seeing use latterly by permanent way gangs, it was commonly seen stored in the goods yard at Ballasalla Station in the summer months and last saw use as a mobile mess room in the winter of 1990-1991; a detailed biography of this unique van, the oldest item of rolling stock on the railway can be found with the details of its restoration by the Association, can be found on the dedicated project page as well as a more detailed history of the van and other members of the series, three of which survive in various forms today.  See further information below by following the link.
