Three-Plank Wagons Hr.27 - Hr.38
Twelve identical wagons delivered from the Swansea Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd., for the opening of the Manx Northern Railway in 1879 beginning with their No.1; upo the merger of 1905 all were inherited by the Railway Company who re-numbered them to be sequential with their extant three-plank wagons beginning with Hr.27 (the small “r” prefix being common to denote former Manx Northern stock).
Hr.31 was scrapped as early as 1924, the next to be lost being Hr.32 in 1927, followed by Hr.36 in 1944 and Hr.35 the next year. Hr.33 and Hr.38 were scrapped in 1947 and Hr.27 followed in 1948. Hr.29 was lost in 1957 with Hr.34 the following year leaving only one representative from this particular batch. Today there is only one surviving, albeit not of this batch, and a replica constructed by the Association - H.1.
