Douglas Station Gift Shop

From 1977 to 1980 the Supporters' Association ran and operated the gift shop in the booking hall at Douglas Station, first on behalf of the Railway Company and then into nationalisation years.  The shop was constructed by stalwart joiner the late Harold Flavell, treasurer for many years, and stocked a wide range of railway items as well as general souvenirs and novelty items (memorably toilet rolls with crosswords printed on them!).  The almost legendary Travel Isle Of Man Railways windscreen visors, well remembered on Tony Beard's car for many years were also stocked, and the original range of postcards from 1967 were a great seller.  At the same time the Association were active with stalls at various steam rallies and events off-island raising much needed coffers, initially for th restoration of No.9 Douglas which ultimately went towards new tubes for No.11 Maitland in 1981.  The booking hall was later developed into a cafeteria with sales stand then, in 1991, a mezzanine floor added when Greens vegetarian restaurant took over to great success.
