One of two similar units,  this example was delivered to the island in May 1978 and was purchased second-hand from the Lochaber Narrow Gauge Railway in Scotland, latterly being stored in Possil Park, Glasgow from 1973 when that system closed.  Stored out of use for many years, latterly in the goods shed at Castletown Station, No.22 is used solely on departmental works and can also occasionally be found on the electric railway where it is used in connection with weed spraying duties.  It was extensively overhauled in September 2012 and has been in regular use ever since, officially acquiring fleet numbers in 2018.

No.22 in June 2022 with the fire train in the loop line at Port Soderick Station viewed from the passing service train. In warm spells it is common for this unit to be on the line.

With the road/rail dumper (also used on fire train duties, in July 2022 on the former manure siding at Santon Station, both in use on fire train duties during a dry spell.

In August 2022 the unit was based at Castletown Station whilst on fire train duties and saw frequent use, it being a very hot dry summer with a number of lineside fires.

In April 2011 the unit was pushed outside the goods shed at Castletown Station to be displayed with a Leyland Atlantean double decker bus during the Rush Hour weekend.

Outside the rear of the goods shed at Castletown Station with its dedicated trailer, the unit is commonly based here in the summer months on fire train duties.

July 2022 saw the unit outside the workshops at Douglas Station carrying the leaf vacuum in its dedicated trailer, note the canvas sides which are pulled down when stored outside.

Stored  out of use and unavailable for traffic in January 2014 in the infill shed at Douglas Station prior to restoration work commencing; the unit was later moved to Castletown goods shed.

Pre-season clearing work including flangeways obstructed with leaves, in February 2019 at Castletown Station with the vacuum mounted on the dedicated trailer for No.22.

Heading south from Castletown Station with its dedicated trailer, the unit is commonly based here in the summer months on fire train duties, and sometimes at Santon Station.
