Station Building / Water Tower / Scissor Crossing / Mine Sidings

Viewed from the headshunt showing the desolate station with its solitary building which survives today.

Showing how the station gained its title "The Back Of The Moon" with the mines spoils piled high above the site.

The station building still looked very much like it was expecting a train to arrive when this view was captured in June 1963.

The bleak scene in 1970 when the rails were still in place, the last train having called in 1961 moving "M" wagons back to St. John's.

The Foxdale Coach was built specificially for the line and was usually the only passenger vehicle used on workings to the village.

The only scissor crossing on the railway was at Foxdale, and buried when the site cleared, believed to still be extant.

The mine workings beyond the station, left, for which several sidings were laid over time for access and spoil trains.

Looking towards St. John's outside the station limits showing the steady incline that dominated the length of the line.

Today the restored station building is home to the Foxdale Heritage Trust and has been restored in recent times.

The station building was rendered latterly, note also the water tower and spoils still evident; the building has now been restored.

Opening day at Foxdale Station with dignitaries posed with the new locomotive, M.N.Ry. No.4 Caledonia hauling the first train.
