John Fayle, B.Eng
Company Treasurer | Board Member
John was welcomed on board as treasurer in 2025 following the retirement of Dave Beedan. While only relatively recently a member of the Association, John brings plenty of knowledge and experience from the railway, an engineering background and experience of charity operations to the board.
With over twenty years on the railway and in that time having carried out every job involved in its day to day running; Firing, Driving, Guard, Station Master and general dogsbody (to his relief only ever one day as a gatekeeper!).
For the last fifteen years he has been found mostly in the railway workshops, having served his time as a craftsman apprentice there and also took the opportunity of extra study via day release over several years to complete an engineering degree. Currently mainly involved in the never ending task of keeping locomotives and carriages in their best condition as well as the smooth running of the railways workshop.
Away from the railway you’ll usually find John busy in his own workshop, or on a steam roller, or refurbishing his Victorian house. Aside from railways, steam engines and engineering John has also been involved as a Scout Leader for more than two decades with one of the largest Scout groups on the island.
