Breakdown Crane No.4
Purchased by the Association at auction when the contents of Rural Industries yard were sold, this unusual crane was mounted on a large concrete base which was bolted to standard gauge wheels; stored in the open for many years, it was initially displayed at Hills Meadow Halt model railway exhibition before moving to the workshop of Greenland Construction for work to the timber jib, the counterweight being taken to J.C.K,. at Balthane where it has been restored and painted. This is an ongoing project, the idea being to place the crane on the site of Union Mills Station and take No.2 Crane back to home metals where it can once again be rail connected and displayed in better context.
Undated worksplate on the counterweight of the crane which reads Selig Sonnenthal & Co., London, a company more well known for their lathes.
