Douglas ’61 : 4mm Model
Douglas ’61 : 4mm Model
Donated to the Supporters’ Association by its builder, long-time member Michael Radcliffe, this 4mm scale model of Douglas Station as it was on Senior T.T. Race Day in 1961 was initially displayed in the now defunct Hills Meadow Halt and is presently in storage, discussion are ongoing regarding a permanent home.
Current proposals include displaying the model at either Douglas Booking Hall, Port Erin Station or in the Railway Museum where it will occasionally be operated by volunteers. The board are looking into options for its permanent display to be enjoyed on the railway and properly interpreted with correct signage.
The model features the entire station area from the booking hall and Bank Hill, Peel Road and its shops up to the coal yard with a scaled down section reaching as far as the Nunnery Cutting and Quarter Bridge, the latter of which features racing on the T.T. circuit to tie in with the timescale of the layout.
Every locomotive is represented, including one of the Wickhams (slightly out of time frames, as are the diesel railcars which also feature), with all carriages similarly represented and some road vehicles. Once a home can be found for the model it will doubtless prove to be another excellent attraction for the railway.
