Ailsa Era Ticket Issues (1967-1972)
SECTION IN PROGRESS
The 1967 ordinary tickets (with no class specified) were all yellow for the singles and the same colour but with maroon triangle superimposed for the returns; a special series were provided (overprinted) “child” in red. Tickets were printed from Douglas to Braddan, Union Mills, Crosby, St. John’s, Peel and blanks. These seem to have been the first tickets to or from Braddan from stations other than Douglas.
Crosby and Union Mills had tickets only to Douglas, Peel and blanks. (Blanks ex-Douglas are quite plentiful but no other printed blank have been seen pre-1967). A full set of tickets was issued from Peel, St. John’s had tickets to all except Crosby, Braddan had Singles only to Douglas, St. John’s, Peel and blanks.
The 1969 issue broke new ground both in the full title and in the fact that they were colour coded in light of the stations involved rather than whether they were First or Third Class, Single or Return and also concessions were printed in the same colours and the ticket could be used in either direction, Returns merely being torn in half and the passenger retaining the left or right hand half (bearing one station name only) as required. Douglas tickets were all one colour: orange for Ballasalla green for Castletown and a brownish red to Port Erin/Port St. Mary. There were Single, Return, Single Child, Return Child and Return Concession. Castletown-Ballasalla were orange tickets with green superimposed over the name Castletown giving an extremely dark green which made it almost illegible.
Castletown-Port Erin, etc. were green with a red band superimposed giving a darkish brown effect over the Port Erin, etc. section (except there they slipped up and so covered the Castletown section). Port Erin, etc. - Ballasalla were brownish orange. orange and Port Erin/Port St. Mary were orange brown/deep buff (Return Concessions were not printed for those, and Return and Return Child only for the Castletown-Ballasalla and the Port Erin/Port St. Mary issues)
The 1971 and 1972 printings were in one colour only, Douglas to Castletown Returns (both the untitled 1971, and the I.o.M.V.S.R. 1972 issues) were pale green with a red “R” on the Castletown-Douglas portion, Port Erin-Castletown Returns are yellowish and Douglas-Port Erin/Port St. Mary concessions a deep pink. The 1971 Port Erin/Port St. Mary Singles and Child Singles are pale mauve and the 1972 I.o.M.V.S.R. Castletown-Port Erin/Port St. Mary Adult Singles and Child•Singles are pale mauve.
