Four-Wheel Carriage A.6
Four-Wheel Carriage A.6
One of the first batch of four-wheel carriages built for the opening of the Peel Line in 1873 by the Metropolitan Carriage &Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley in Birmingham, upon delivery of the first bogie carriages from Brown, Marshall & Co., Ltd. in 1876, these smoother riding vehicles found favour over initial batches.
By 1880-1881 this carriage was close-coupled with C.4 and later mounted onto a bogie underframe in 1920 to become “pairs” carriage F.59; following withdrawal from traffic the bodies were scrapped at St. John's Station in 1968 and the underframes re-used to become runner R.10 which has since also been scrapped.
The portion of F.59 at Douglas Station in 1958 whilst part of the schools trains.
