Four-Wheel Carriage A.1
Four-Wheel Carriage A.1
The first of the first batch of four-wheel carriages built for the opening of the Peel Line in 1873 supplied by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley in Birmingham, upon delivery of the first bogie carriages from Brown, Marshall & Co., Ltd., in 1876 the four-wheelers gradually fell out of favour to this superior riding stock.
And so in around 1881 it was close-coupled with B.1 and later mounted onto a bogie underframe in 1926 to become “pairs” carriage F.62; in this formation it survived as a pairs carriage in traffic until 1987; the pair was restored and returned to traffic in 2023 and is now an active part of the service fleet together with similarly treated F.63.
As F.62 fully restored with A.1 to the right, at Douglas Station in May 2022.
The Interior of A.1 as full restored as one portion of F.62, at Port Erin Station.
The replica Metropolitan worksplate of F.62 at Port Erin Station in August 2022.
