Brake Van E.1 (ii)

This was provided by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., of Saltley Works in Birmingham as a replacement for the original E.1 (i) which was destroyed following an accident at St. Johns Station in 1893; it was supplied by the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley Works in Birmingham as per previous orders of the same series.  It was later renumbered as E.4 and scrapped in 1975 as part of the Ballasalla Bonfire making it one of the last brake vans to survive.  The accompanying illustration shows a possible livery variety with fleet lettering on the waist panels.
