Drop-Side Wagons Mr.28 - Mr.35
Drop-Side Wagons Mr.28 - Mr.35
Manufactured by Matthew Baird & Co., Ltd. in 1884, eight of these drop-side wagons were inherited from the Manx Northern Railway upon the 1905 merger, there were seven of these wagons. An initial enquiry had been made to the Ashbury Carriage & Wagon Co., in 1881 for more drop-side wagons owing to an increase in mines traffic.
Following the tender process the contract was awarded to the Glasgow-based firm, the finished articles being slightly longer than other wagons of the series and could be readily identified by the different position of the securing pins for the drop sides. The final example survived until the mass clear out of 1974 that became known as the Ballsalla Bonfire.
