Many of our on-going projects and initiatives helping to promote and support the railway and conserve its heritage rely on volunteers undertaking a range of basic work tasks (inspection, painting, decorating, woodwork, cleaning, maintenance, gardening etc.) at station sites along the line. We have an active presence at various sites along the line including:-
At Castletown Station, we work closely with the local Friends Of... group who have a number of ongoing projects on the site including a replica advertisement hoarding and historical displays. Our volunteer activities presently also include preparation work in relation to the restoration of locomotive No.9 Douglas having completed a similar project on No.5 Mona in July 2023.
Requirements : appropriate safety-wear (clothing, footwear, gloves, P.P.E.) and personal track safety (P.T.S.) certification

Part-way through the erection, lettering and painting of the new running in board at Ballabeg Station as part of an Association project enhancing and repainting the popular request stop in May 2021.
Association volunteers attended to the cleaning of No.6 Peveril ahead of the 2022 anniversary season in the railway museum at Port Erin Station which is open every day the trains are operating.
A second full repaint, this time into maroon and cream having previously been green, and other refurbishment work including new concrete planters at the diminutive request stop at The Level in June 2020.

Working parties are regularly on site cosmetically restoring No.5 Mona in the former goods shed at Port St. Mary, seen here in December 2022 shortly after the boiler was reunited with the frames and cab fitted.
