The Fish Wagons

These hybrid wagons were low-sided when compared with other similar goods stock and were constructed on four-wheeled underframes released from carriages which had been put on bogie underframes (see “pairs” for details).  They were numbered in a separate sequence with no letter prefix but were originally proposed to follow on from the “H” series.

They were labelled “Fish Wagon” at the left-hand side and carried their nominal fleet numbers to the right.  The third of the series was constructed on the frames of an E” series four wheel brake van and was thusly equipped with its own braking equipment; their use fell out of favour with the more versatile M” series drop-sides seeing favour.
