What follows has been extracted verbatim from the 1922 issue of the Rules & Regulations issued to all employees of the Railway Company from platelayers to station masters, gangers to charge-hands across all departments; it remained in use for many years, being re-issued for the reopening on 3rd June 1967

The 1967 version was a complete reprint and contained no updates or modifications, remaining in place until the nationalisation in 1978 at which point a revised edition was issued to all employees; there have been many versions since 1982 when the Isle of Man Passsenger Transport Act came into being.

In modern times two new rule books have come into being, one which contains "general" rules across all government-owned railways, with specific rules in another booklet covering the specifics of both steam and electric railways, though some regulations are still in place from 1922, there have been many updates...

Since the automation of level crossings from 2001, additional chapter points appear for their use, as well as signalling matrixes at Port Erin, operation of the fire train and weed-sprayed, special operations procedures (equivalent of engineering possesion but when the operations retain possession of the line).
