Carriage F.6 Restoration
Carriage F.6 Restoration
Following our successful projects to restore original van G.1, cosmetically restore No.5 Mona in the goods shed at Port St. Mary for the 150th anniversary celebrations, followed closely by similar work on No.9 Douglas which was completed and displayed to the public during the 2025 Manx Heritage Transport Festival, the Association announced their most ambitious project to date, the full restoration of the earliest surviving bogie carriage F.6, dating from the first batch in 1876.
Returned to the island from "Collection X" following purchase by the Supporters' Association in 2024, with our grateful thanks to J.C.K. Limited, a joint statement was released on 29th July 2025 with the Vale Of Rheidol Railway prior to commencement of restoration work by contractor Greenfield Construction who have carried out similar works to a high standard, including our own G.1 project as well as full restoration of composite F.15 and most recently both F.10 and F.11.
It is planned to have the carriage back on home metals in readiness for the 2026 Manx Heritage Transport Festival, though it is not envisaged that it will be complete and ready for traffic at this time. The progress on the carriage depends largely on the amount raised in order that work can continue at a consistent rate.
