Half-Brake Carriage F.44

The last of the 1908 batch of half-brakes delivered from the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley Works, Birmingham and surviving in regular traffic until the Lord Ailsa era, this carriage was surplus to requirements by the time of nationalisation in 1978 and withdrawn; it survived until 1983 when the body was scrapped with the underframe retained as a bogie runner.  It fulfilled this role until 2011 when the frames too were scrapped.
