Four-Wheel Carriage C.6

The Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd., of Saltley Works in Birmingham supplied this carriage for the 1873 opening of the Peel Line and by 1881 it has been close-coupled with B.2, later mounted permanently on a bogie underframe from the same supplier in 1912, becoming “pair” F.55.  The four-wheel timber underframes were used to construct K.18 and the bogie underframe became R.3 upon removal of the carriage bodies in 1968, these were scrapped on site at St. Johns Station.
