Purchased for the opening of the Manx Northern Railway on 23rd September 1879 from the Swansea Carriage & Wagon Co., this member of the class was one that was noted as still being available for traffic at peak times into the 1940s, thereafter it was stored in the carriage shed at Ramsey Station, later St. John’s Station once the former shed was leased out by the railway.  It was stored for several years in the open on a spur to the rear of the carriage shed in common with many other six-wheelers.

It was selected and purchased for private preservation off-island in 1975 and became part of the collection of the Phyllis Rampton Charitable Trust known to many as “Collection X”, and stored in a private location.  In February of 2026 it was relocated to the Vale of Rheidol Railway where it remains in storage today with sister carriage N.40 as remarkable survivors, still bearing traces of its latter numbering and class designations on the compartment doors after the passage of many decades.
