Progress Update No.5 Mona  : 30th April

As the 150th anniversary celebrations draw ever closer, works in the goods shed at Port St. Mary Station by Association volunteers continues apace on the cosmetic restoration of No.5 Mona with attention focused over the weekend on the driving wheels and refitting of various smaller component parts.  To facilitate the undercoat being applied to the wheels a small winch was used to ease the locomotive forward for access.

The clack pipes from No.10 G.H. Wood have been adapted to fit the locomotive, and a small plug constructed to give a better fit to the handrails.  Repairs have also been made to a damaged connecting rod, re-machining it out, the next plan being to make a new pin for it.  All in all work is well in hand for the locomotive to appear during the special anniversary celebrations which take place on Saturday 1st July, anniversary day itself, and an extended Summer Transport Festival at the end of that month.
