Above: one of eight similar carriages delivered from the Metropolitan Carriage & Wagon Co., Ltd. between 1902 and 1926 and forming the backbone of the fleet, it was rare for trains to operate without one of these versatile vehicles in the rake, capable of stowing a variety of goods in the capacious luggaeg compartments; this example was delivered in 1908 with sister F.43.

July 1962 and F.44 stands on Road One at Douglas Station following a repaint into the red and cream livery of the times.
In September 1959 F.44 on the rear of a train departing Douglas Station, the central position of the lettering was standard.
Still in regular use in June 1969 seen at Douglas Station on the rear of a south line train; today only F.49 of the type remains in traffic.
